Medusa is revered as a Queen of West Coast underground hip-hop. She got her start in the ’80s as part of pop-locking crews, appearing in OG films like Breakin’ and Electric Boogaloo. By the ’90s, she and her cousin/rap partner KoKo became fixtures in the Good Life Cafe scene and were invited to join Freestyle Fellowship’s elite MC collective, The Heavyweights, appearing on Round 2 from the classic Project Blowed compilation. With a 30-year career spanning music, film, and activism, Medusa has landed movie roles, graced LA Weekly magazine covers, won multiple awards (including a Grammy with Ozomatli), and received recognition in Rolling Stone’s Top 100 West Coast Rap Anthems for hip-hop’s 50th anniversary edition. She is a leader, educator, and cultural icon who continues to inspire through her music and message.
